DIY Chalkboard

I wanted a cute chalkboard for my kitchen/living room, but didn't want to spend $50. I looked at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Kirkland home store, Kohls, Target, etc for one, but they were all too expensive for my taste. So I decided that my husband and I could make one.

I purchased an old window frame from a garage sale that had a vintage look to it. They had a few, some with glass in them and some without. I made it easier for us by buying one ($4) that was already empty, but if you can't find an empty one it would not be too hard to take out the glass.
I cleaned the dirt off it and sanded the edges so we wouldn't get slivers.
We measured it and then headed to Home Depot. They sell boards of chalkboard in the wood section that are 2 feet x 4 feet. Ask a worker and they will cut it down to the size you want. Ours was 2x2' so they cut it to fit perfectly. We also purchased picture tacks from Michaels that would hold it in place on the back.

This picture shows the tacks we used (installed by using a flat head screwdriver and pushing with our muscles :) )
